The Director of Utilities at Invitation Homes will develop and execute a comprehensive utility management strategy aligned with the corporate goals and objectives. This includes but is not limited to the following tasks:

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze market trends, industry regulations, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for optimization, cost savings, and sustainability in utility management
  • Facilitate contract negotiations with utility providers and third-party vendors, ensuring favorable terms, competitive pricing, and high-quality service delivery
  • Partner with the VP of Energy to drive strategic initiatives to optimize utility consumption, minimize costs, and maximize operational efficiency while ensuring resident satisfaction
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement innovative solutions for water conservation and waste reduction across properties
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including utility providers, regulatory agencies, and industry associations
  • Lead the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) to track and report on utility management performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions
  • Provide guidance and support to Market teams in navigating utilities-related challenges and implementing best practices
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely budgeting, forecasting, and reporting of utility expenses and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and development for the Utilities team

Who We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, energy management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years in utility management, preferably in a corporate or property management setting
  • Strong knowledge of utility operations, including electricity, water, gas, and waste management
  • Demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, budgeting, and contract negotiation related to utility management
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in utilities management
  • Experience in managing a team and fostering a collaborative work environment
  • Proficiency in analyzing utility consumption data, identifying patterns, and implementing energy conservation measures
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of implementing innovative solutions for utility optimization
  • Familiarity with sustainable practices and knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in energy efficiency and renewable energy
  • Ability to stay updated on changing regulations, market dynamics, and advancements in utility management
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Proficient in using utility management software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Can effectively work independently and as a member of various teams and committees  
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
