Job Description

The Senior Accountant, Property Accounting is responsible for performing general accounting functions for a portfolio of approximately 80,000 single-family rental properties, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, working with other departments to understand their business unit and impact on the financials, and collaborating with other teams within the Accounting Department to ensure timely delivery of financials.  The ideal candidate will have experience and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be able to manage multiple tasks, and have a desire to grow and develop the team.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures month-end close deadlines are met, prepares monthly journal entries, completes bank reconciliations, and maintains balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Reviews work completed by accounting associates for accuracy and completeness in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Reviews the Balance Sheet and Income Statement to ensure accuracy.

  • Responsible for understanding a variety of financial reports and the impact of the single-family rental business on results of operations.

  • Mentors and encourages staff and their professional development.

  • Assists with external and internal audit requests (SOX, Compliance, Internal Controls, etc.).

  • Participates in Company-provided training.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in accounting and financial statement preparation is required. Property Accounting experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate Excel expertise required; Yardi experience a plus.
  • Experience working with high volumes of data.
