The primary function of the Claims Adjuster role is to provide support to the Legal & Risk team through adjusting claims, monitoring cases, and reviewing, generating, and distributing legal & risk-related reports.  This role adds core value by managing claims within the company’s self-insured retentions and ensuring compliance and timeliness of many of the day-to-day tasks in Legal/Risk.  

What You’ll Do

• Claims Management and Reporting - work with Carriers/TPAs to ensure timely and accurate processing of all claim’s paperwork and loss reserves.
  • Handle in-house retention claims.
    • Property, General Liability, Auto, subrogation
  • Property Claims -Coordinates with Director, Claims on Impairment Notices and VPO Reporting
• Investigates commercial property insurance claims in any of a variety of settings.
• Uses knowledge of property and construction, and/or knowledge of the specific industry to substantiate losses or damage or the lack of.
• Obtains necessary information from the claimant, experts, field operations and regional legal to accurately assess the extent of the insurable loss. 
• Works cooperatively with experts, TPA, other renter insurance adjusters as needed to conduct investigations, confirm findings, and support evaluation.
• Applies understanding of insurance policies and policy interpretation, establishing appropriate loss reserves based on all relevant information and findings.
• Works with various levels of associates within the organization to provide feedback, data and expertise pertaining to property damage and claims.
• Perform audits of work orders of multi-property catastrophic events to ensure accurate scope of damage related to the occurrence.
• Risk Management Information System & Reporting
  • Upload investigative documents, maintain up to date notes and accurate reserves.
  • Claims Reporting: generate, review and distribute reports, as needed.

• Subrogation
  • Apply industry knowledge to appropriately evaluate first- party property claims for potential third-party recovery.
  • Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reimbursement request to submit to at-fault party.
  • Apply negotiating skills to reach settlement with adverse party through persuasion abilities.

Who We’re Looking For

• Minimum 2- 5 years’ experience in commercial property adjusting or other insurance-related work.
• Active Claim Adjuster license
• Research and investigative abilities; negotiating, conflict resolution and persuasion abilities.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Possess a strong sense of urgency in completing tasks and projects.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (XLookUp, Pivot Tables) and database management programs in order to complete required reports and produce necessary reports.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
